So, I’ll be honest. I’m not one to hand-make Valentine’s cards. I’m usually perfectly happy to let my kids pick out a branded cartoon box set at the store. But, last year, with Covid making us all separated for virtual school, it felt worth the energy to do an easy DIY Valentine’s Day card!! Plus, Magic Paintings were even a customer special as a 2 for 1, so it felt like the PERFECT time to jump in!! It was so easy that I’m gearing up to do it again for both of my kids’ classes this year.
There are currently 35 Magic Painting titles to choose from! Including Space, Unicorns, Bugs, Dinosaurs, and Calming. My faves are the ones for fairy tales since those also include the story to read! It’s like you’re illustrating your own book by painting in the scenes! Just search Magic Painting to find them all.
How I did my easy DIY Valentine’s Day card:
I made colorful labels (see below to download) and paired it with a sheet from a Magic Painting book. Each Magic Painting book has 15 pages to tear out along the perforated edge. I rolled each page up, tied a ribbon, and attached my label! Voila! Mess-free craft and easy DIY Valentine’s card all in one go. My daughter even loved being in charge of cutting out the labels and doing the hole punch so it came together very quickly.
For extra credit, go ahead and pair them with paint brushes! Each book comes with one paint brush so…you’ll need more than that to divide them up! I grabbed these from Amazon:
What exactly are Magic Painting books?!
We have been obsessed with our Magic Paintings for years but maybe they’re new to you! All of the books have the same concept. You dip the included paintbrush in some water and run the brush over the black ink on the page. The water will reveal different colored pigments (that are stored within the inked lines) and you can spread the color around. It’s kind of like painting with water color! Each book has a divider that you can tuck behind the page you’re working on to prevent the water from seeping to the other pages.
I’m a big fan of the Unhurry or Unworry Magic Painting books. They are a great way to destress.
